Earthlight World Premiere Day

Saturday, June 13 | 12:00 – 4:15 pm

Join astronauts Sian "Leo" Proctor, PhD, Cady Coleman, PhD, and celebrated author Frank White for the world premiere day of our newest Planetarium show from the Museum of Science, Earthlight World: An Astronaut's Journey.

Earthlight World (2026)

Join commercial astronaut and filmmaker Sian Proctor, former NASA astronaut and retired U.S. Air Force Colonel Cady Coleman, and Frank White for a glimpse into the transformative experience of spaceflight in a celebration of the orbital perspective and the world premiere of Earthlight World: An Astronaut's Journey — a new fulldome production created by Sian Proctor in partnership with the Museum of Science, Boston, and Space2inspire, that brings together space exploration, Afrofuturism, art, and personal reflection.

The day's activities at the Museum will include a book fair of ideas and imagination, where stories of science, poetry, and human innovation can ignite conversation, alongside meet-and-greets and opportunities to hear from Sian Proctor, Cady Coleman, Frank White, and other voices actively shaping and reimagining the future of human spaceflight.

Schedule of events:

12:00 – 1:00 pm:  Astronaut Book Fair & Signing with Sian Proctor, Cady Coleman, Frank White, Mike Mongo, and John A. Read (Red Wing, Level 1)

1:30 – 2:45 pm: Public Premiere Earthlight World: An Astronaut's Journey with talkback following the screening with Sian Proctor, Cady Coleman, and Frank White (Charles Hayden Planetarium; separate Planetarium show ticket required)

Frank White

Author

Frank White is the author or coauthor of numerous books spanning space exploration, climate change, and artificial intelligence. His most celebrated work, The Overview Effect: Space Exploration and Human Evolution, coined the term now used to describe the profound cognitive shift astronauts experience when witnessing Earth from orbit — a sudden realization of our planet's fragility, unity, and extraordinary beauty. A short film inspired by the book has amassed nearly 8 million views on Vimeo, and since its first publication in 1987, the fourth edition — featuring original interviews with 31 astronauts — is forthcoming in 2019.

That perspective, once reserved for a select few, is now expanding through a new era of commercial spaceflight, opening the door to revolutionary science, global collaboration, and a reimagining of humanity's relationship with Earth. White has long championed this shift through his identity as a "space philosopher." His latest book, The Cosma Hypothesis: Implications of the Overview Effect, asks why evolution has brought us to the threshold of becoming a spacefaring species, and introduces "the Human Space Program" — a shared civilizational project inviting all of us to become Citizens of the Universe.

Frank and his wife Donna live outside Boston, Massachusetts.
