Step into the future—and meet the generations that come after us.

This July, SubSpace is bringing Ancestors, an award-winning interactive experience by the Smartphone Orchestra, to the Museum of Science. Blending technology, storytelling, and human connection, Ancestors invites participants on a powerful collective journey six generations into the future.

Guided entirely through your smartphone, you’ll engage in a series of prompts, interactions, and shared moments that connect you with others in the room in surprising and meaningful ways. Using AI, participants co-create imagined future generations—becoming part of a shared family tree that evolves throughout the experience. As the experience unfolds, you’ll explore big questions about climate, technology, and society—and reflect on the impact of the choices we make today on the world of tomorrow. Both playful and thought-provoking, Ancestors transforms your phone from a distraction into a tool for connection, curiosity, and collective imagination.

This is not a passive performance—it’s a fully immersive, participatory experience where the audience becomes part of the story. Expect to connect with strangers, challenge your perspective, and leave with a renewed sense of responsibility for the future we are shaping together.

Each evening will feature two limited-capacity sessions at 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM. Advance sign-up is required, and space is limited to ensure an intimate and engaging experience.

Accessibility: Ancestors has both visual and auditory cues. Ancestors is not a seated performance, you’ll move through the room for the entire duration.
