Discover the connections between nature, science, and city life. Situated along the Museum’s southwestern, river-facing side, the Yawkey Gallery on the Charles River offers a panoramic view of Boston’s iconic waterway and an up-close look at the ecosystems it sustains. Through educational exhibits, live animals, and real-time environmental data, this gallery is a living laboratory exploring the relationship between the natural world and the built environment here in the heart of New England.

This gallery has been made possible through a generous lead gift from the Yawkey Foundations, major gifts from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Ann and Ed Kania, Payson and Jane Swaffield, and numerous other contributors.

A new view of the Charles — coming soon

Exciting changes are coming to the Museum’s riverfront. We're reimagining 10,000 square feet of space overlooking the Charles to create the Public Science Common—a dynamic new hub for discovery, dialogue, and innovation. Opening in 2026, this venue will connect visitors with Boston’s world-class scientific community, offering immersive experiences, live programs, and special events.
