Annular Solar Eclipse & Saturn Occultation Video Watch time Under 1 minute October 1, 2024 Image Your October night sky forecast is here! On October 2, an annular or “ring” solar eclipse will occur. This means that the Moon is too far away to completely block out the Sun, so instead the Sun forms a bright ring around the Moon. This eclipse will be visible in the Pacific Ocean, including on Rapa Nui and Easter Island, as well as in Southern Argentina and Chile. Hawai’i and South America will also witness a partial eclipse! Additionally, on October 14 and 15 there will be an occultation, when the Moon passes in front of a celestial object - in this case, the planet Saturn - visible from South Africa, India, and China.
