About the Speakers

Hyeouk Chris Hahm, PhD, LCSW

Professor and Associate Dean for Research at Boston University, School of Social Work

Dr. Hahm received a Master’s and PhD in Social Work from Columbia University and completed an NIMH Postdoctoral Fellowship at UC Berkeley. She serves as professor and Associate Dean for Research at Boston University School of Social Work and is the first Asian American promoted to full professor at BUSSW. Dr. Hahm’s expertise includes epidemiology, theory development, and suicide interventions among immigrant children. She pioneered the AWARE Intervention Program training for clinicians treating Asian Americans, which was successfully implemented in educational settings.

Amanda Dedicatoria

Freelance Science Writer; Board Member of Micronesia Climate Change Alliance

Amanda Dedicatoria is a Filipino freelance science writer based in Guåhan (Guam) with experience in broadcast journalism, film, and photography. Amanda has a passion for making science culturally relevant, accessible, and engaging. They also serve on the board of the Micronesia Climate Change Alliance, a nonprofit committed to uplifting Micronesian communities. In 2024, Amanda sailed through the waters of Palau as an Ocean Exploration Trust Science Communication Fellow. As a 2025 Lead Science Communication Fellow, they will explore the deep-sea ecosystems along and within the Mariana Trench Marine National Monument on Exploration Vessel Nautilus.

Yalinu Poya, PhD

Assistant Professor of Chemistry, Wentworth Institute of Technology

Dr. Yalinu Poya is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the Wentworth Institute of Technology, Boston, Massachusetts. She is a highly motivated chemist and an enthusiastic early-career academic with experience in green chemistry research and broad teaching experience in higher education. Dr. Poya holds a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Papua New Guinea (PNG), an MSc in Inorganic Chemistry from Northeast Normal University (China), and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Glasgow (UK). She also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) from the University of Liverpool (UK) and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Dr. Poya’s research interests lie in green chemistry, sustainable technologies, bioplastics, pollutants, clean energy, climate policy, STEM education, food security, and science communication.

Chih-Chung Lin

Instructor of Neurology, Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School; Co-president, Taiwan Film Festival of Boston

Chih-Chung “Jerry” Lin was born and raised in Taiwan and earned his Ph.D. in Immunology from Washington University in St. Louis. He is currently an Instructor at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, where he investigates the role of peripheral immune cells in Alzheimer’s disease. Outside the lab, he serves as co-president of the Taiwan Film Festival of Boston, promoting Taiwanese culture and voices through cinema.
