You’re about to witness a mind-bending visual illusion known as the Troxler Effect—and it’s going to mess with your perception in the coolest way

In this short, Alex Dainis explores how your brain can literally make objects in your vision vanish without any editing or trickery. All you need to do is keep your phone still and stare at the cross in the center of the screen. Watch as the lilac circles start to disappear even though they’re still right there. This happens because your brain filters out unchanging stimuli in your peripheral vision. It’s the same reason you don't constantly notice your nose—even though it's always in view!

This phenomenon is a perfect example of how your senses don’t always show you the full picture. It also reveals how microsaccades (tiny, involuntary eye movements) keep your world from fading away.

Try it yourself and let us know in the comments: Did the illusion work on you? Did the circles vanish?
