A Beautiful Resistance Live!

Join Boston Globe culture columnist Jeneé Osterheldt for A Beautiful Resistance Live!—a special evening honoring Black joy, truth, and storytelling. Through film, conversation, and community, celebrate the fullness of Black life beyond struggle and survival.

SubSpace Fall 2025 Assets

This all-new event brings to life the vision behind Jeneé Osterheldt’s work: to celebrate Black lives in their fullness—not defined by trauma, but uplifted through joy, love, and everyday beauty. As she writes, “Blackness must not be defined by our brutalization. We are more than death. When we are depicted by our extremes, the truth of us is lost. We live, fully. Our joy, our dreams, our everyday stories? That's a beautiful resistance.”

Each season of A Beautiful Resistance features original short films, long-form narratives, and artist Q&As, inviting the community to reflect, share on social media, and celebrate together. This live event continues that tradition—with music, story, and love at the center.

This program is free, thanks to the generosity of the Lowell Institute.

Headshot of SIDE

SIDE Presents™

SIDE Presents™ was founded in 2019 by two young creatives, Therlande and Marlyn, who wanted to build something that felt like home for artists, dreamers, and community members who don’t always see themselves reflected in “traditional” art spaces. What started as a small gathering rooted in women’s empowerment has evolved into a cultural production company that brings people together through intentional, art-driven experiences grounded in diasporic joy, storytelling, and creativity.

We thoughtfully design events where people feel safe enough to show up as their whole selves — whether they’re sharing their talent, exploring new creative practices, or simply being in community with folks they may have never crossed paths with otherwise. Our work is about sparking connection, expanding visibility for underrepresented artists and small businesses, and creating moments that feel nourishing, not performative.

SIDE collaborates with clients to curate innovative productions that don’t just “host” community, but genuinely serve it. From concept to execution, we focus on impact, cultural care, and atmosphere — making sure guests feel seen, welcomed, and part of something meaningful. Every event is designed to open doors to conversation, relationship-building, and a deeper sense of belonging.
