Space to Sea: The Gulf of Maine’s Ocean Wilderness is a stunning visual journey into the depths of New England’s ocean wilderness, revealing an extraordinary — and often surprising — array of life beneath the surface. From apex predators like great white sharks and ocean giants such as humpback whales to massive schools of mackerel and microscopic plankton visible from space, this captivating preview celebrates the Gulf of Maine’s rich biodiversity.

Projected on the Museum’s five-story-high IMAX® dome screen, the film gives audiences a close-up view of underwater imagery and surrounds them with a breathtaking sense of immersion—making them feel as if they are swimming alongside animals just off our coast.

Created by underwater photographer and MIT Sea Grant Visiting Artist Keith Ellenbogen, Space to Sea combines striking imagery and rich storytelling to showcase the beauty, behavior, and incredible journeys of ocean wildlife — from shallow coastal zones to deep open waters. This exclusive first look brings these animals alive onscreen, highlighting one of Earth’s most vibrant marine ecosystems and setting the stage for a larger exploration to come.

Join us in the Museum’s Mugar Omni Theater to experience the wonders of our local ocean. The premiere will be followed by a conversation with Keith Ellenbogen and David Sittenfeld, director of the Center for the Environment at the Museum of Science, offering a behind-the-scenes look at documenting biodiversity and advancing marine conservation in the Gulf of Maine.
