He is an Honorary Professor in the Evolutionary Studies Institute at South Africa’s University of the Witwatersrand and a Director Emeritus of Canada’s Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology. He was the 50th anniversary board chair for the Geological Association of Canada and in 2007 received a Humanitarian of the Year Award from the American Conference on Diversity.
