Waves and Their Applications Teacher Institute

Intended for Educators Teaching Grades 4 – 8

We are inviting teachers to apply for a space in our multi-day professional development program that will explore the content of the Waves and Their Applications in Technologies for Information Transfer standards.

In addition to learning related content, participants will consider teaching strategies and lessons designed to engage students in learning these ideas. Big ideas include:

  • Energy transfer
  • Waves properties
  • Types of waves
  • The nature of light
  • Encoding information
  • Digital signals

This institute was co-developed with two Summer Teachers-in-Residence and will convene on two full-day Saturday workshops at the Museum of Science January 20 and April 7, 2018. Participants are also expected to complete six hours of independent work including time for virtual communication between the two Saturday meetings.

While pairs are encourage to apply, individual participants will be linked with a learning buddy with whom they can share ideas relating to their work with students as they implement some new strategies into their current curriculum. Please complete the application process via the link provided.

Participants are eligible for 18 MA PDPs upon program completion.
