Innovators in Action

Volunteer as an Innovator! There are many ways to get involved both inside the walls of the Museum of Science and beyond in our community. See below for some of the ways The Innovators are in action and sign up yourself!

Help Administer Design Challenges

Design Challenges

Design Challenges provide visitors a fun, engaging experience of engineering and innovation. This activity lets visitors take on the role of an engineer by participating in hands-on activities to design, build, and test a prototype solution to a given problem.

Innovators work directly with the Design Challenges staff and give visitors hands-on assistance in engineering.

This opportunity is available during Massachusetts school vacation weeks in December, February and April. Volunteer shifts are from 9:30am–1:00pm and 1:30–4:00pm.

Contact innovators@mos.org to sign up or for more information.

Roll up your sleeves at the Hands-On Lab

The Hands-On Laboratory is a fun, interactive learning laboratory program that encourages visitors of all ages to explore a variety of topics in the sciences—from chemistry to genetics to nanotechnology to archaeology—using many of the same tools and techniques as real scientists.

Innovators work together with laboratory staff, volunteers, and interns to welcome guests, guide visitors as they explore an activity station, and enforce appropriate safety practices.

This volunteer opportunity is available on Saturdays throughout the year, every day during Massachusetts school vacation weeks in December, February and April, and all weekdays in May. Shifts are from 9:30am-12:30pm on weekdays and 12:30-3:30pm on Saturdays.

Share Your Invaluable Experience with Students

High School Science Series programs occur every month at the Museum. These two hour “field trip experiences” delve into the sciences through exciting lectures from scientists and researchers! Students also explore connections to curriculum through hands-on activities and events. Lend your voice as a speaker or help facilitate a corresponding activity.

Innovators have the opportunity to give brief TED style talks, help with registration, or facilitate activities with an educator. Events are typically on Friday mornings and take place from 9:00am-12:30pm.

Make an Impact at the Museum!

The Innovators Leadership Committee (ILC) meet four times per year to assist the Annual Giving team with advancing the Museum’s mission through its young professional’s society – The Innovators. Service on the ILC provides an opportunity to further develop a personal approach to philanthropy, volunteerism, develop professionally in a structured leadership role, and learn about the operational aspects of the Museum.
