Fall Annual Giving Internship
Description
The Annual Giving Department, within the Advancement Division at the Museum of Science, generates unrestricted operating revenue through contributions from individuals. This is done by conducting solicitations for new and repeat gifts via mail, phone, personal solicitation, and volunteer solicitation.
The Annual Giving Department also defines and implements programs to cultivate and steward donors with an emphasis on the Explorer and Discoverers societies and the Innovators young professional group.
Position Summary
The Annual Giving Department aorganizes a sponsored mountain climb held in July of each year, on Mount Washington, NH. Planning the logistics of this event and assisting climbers with fundraising will take place at the Museum of Science.
Responsibilities
• Collaborate with the Annual Fund team and various Museum departments on a variety of projects including solicitation and invitation mailings, data preparation and analysis, drafting letters and articles, and coordinate logistics such as publicity and donor engagement strategies
• Assist in the planning of our flagship fundraising event, The Washburn Challenge
• Engage with Annual Fund donors, Museum partners and Annual Fund volunteers
• Contribute to event-planning and additional department meetings
• Receiving training on how to utilize our database to input and keep record of donor related information
• Steward philanthropic gifts received from donors by contact through phone and email
• Provide general administrative support to the Annual Fund Team
Minimum Qualifications
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel, and ability to learn the department’s fundraising database (Millennium)
• Excellent communication skills; comfort with all methods of professional communication (in person, email, phone, etc.)
• Interest in fundraising and/or non-profit management
• Strict attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality (imperative)
• Comfort with multi-tasking in a high energy environment
• Ability to work independently and within groups, including all levels of management and donors
• Some event planning experience a plus, but not essential
• Experience with college phonathons or other volunteer fundraising programs also desired but not required
Additional Details
Hours / Days Per Week
21 hrs/wk Mon-Fri with some weekend and evening hours. Flexible schedule to fit around classes
Compensation
$8.00-$8.25/hour
Duration
Fall 2013 (September/October - December)
