Visitors to Odyssey's SHIPWRECK! Pirates & Treasure exhibit observe the life-size replica of the eight-ton Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) ZEUS. The ROV is fitted with high-definition still and video cameras and lights, and can descend to the ocean floor at depths of over 8,000 feet.

Visitors to Odyssey's SHIPWRECK! Pirates & Treasure exhibit can watch as the Robotic Arm picks up gold coins to place in the recovery container. The Robotic Arm is operated by another visitor sitting at the control station located a few feet away.

It takes an assortment of high-tech equipment to discover shipwrecks thousands of miles below the ocean surface. In SHIPWRECK! Pirates & Treasure guests learn about the suite of tools used by Odyssey’s crew, including the side-scan sonar towfish pictured above.

The Bottle Wall displayed in SHIPWRECK! Pirates & Treasure features nearly 100 bottles recovered from the wreck of the SS Republic, a small sampling of the 8,000 glass and stoneware bottles recovered from this 1700-foot deep site.
