Fall Cahners Computer Place Internship

Description

Cahners ComputerPlace intern will help staff the ComputerPlace space, leading interpretations with visitors, and develop an activity. The intern will assist in the daily operation of the Caners ComputerPlace by interpretation and maintain the exhibits components. The intern will use skills developed through the internship to complete a project that will enhance the visitor experience.

Department Summary

ComputerPlace is a staff assisted discovery space where visitors can explore computer science topics by engaging in hand-on activities and have direct conversations with staff and volunteers on a wide range of computer related topics. Volunteer and staff interpreters play a crucial role in facilitating visitor experiences by bringing their unique voice and perspective to an exciting area of the museum.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to interpret exhibits and activities in CCP
  • Act as a role model for Volunteers
  • Help maintain a clean and welcoming environment for visitors, including resetting exhibits and computers.
  • Complete a project to enhance the ComputerPlace visitor experience.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate Student, graduate student or career changer
  • Able to work well independently and with a team
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with the people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities
  • Experience with teaching complex ideas, in simple terms preferred (Can you explain to Grandma how to view your Facebook pictures?)
  • Comfortable with restarting computers and basic computer maintenance
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Enthusiastic, flexible, reliable and responsible

Additional Details

Hours / Days Per Week

14 - 21 hours/week (two or three full 7 hours days. One of these das must be Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Candidates able to work during winter break through January 5, 2013 are preferred.
