Showcasing Cambridge as an internationally recognized leader in science and technology, this multifaceted, multicultural event features exhibitions, plays, concerts, poetry readings, lectures, demonstrations, and debates.
Unless otherwise indicated, events are free with Exhibit Halls admission.
> Charles River Solar System See a scale model of the solar system along the Cambridge bank of the Charles. April 25 - 26 and May 2 - 3, 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. Free; weather permitting. Cambridge side of Charles River near Museum
> Evolutionary Haiku In honor of this bicentennial year of Charles Darwin, the Museum is displaying a first-edition copy of The Origin of Species, rare Darwin artifacts, and an interactive display of haiku poetry in tribute to the great naturalist. Submit your poem at mos.org/haiku. Daily, all day. Exhibit Halls
> Live Presentations Take in live programs on such topics as live animals, optical illusions, and current science. April 25 - May 3, 10:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Exhibit Halls
> Solar Lunch Observe the Sun through the Museum's safe solar telescope. April 25 - May 3, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. Weather permitting; free. Museum Plaza outside Entrance
> Naturally Selected: A Darwin Bicentennial Revue The North Cambridge Family Opera Company presents a collection of songs about Darwin and natural selection along with a slide show of kids' art. April 26, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Tickets: A limited number of free tickets are available in the Museum lobby starting at 5:30 p.m. First come, first served. Cahners Theater
> Kids' Science Challenge. In this online competition kids age 8 - 11 investigated four fields of science and entered experiments and problems for real-life scientists and engineers to solve. Several of the winners and scientists share their experiences. April 26, 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m.. Gordon Current Science & Technology Center Stage
> Amazing Nano Brothers Juggling Show Join Dan and Joel as they jiggle and juggle their way through the mysteries of the atomic world. April 26 and April 30, 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. Cahners Theater
> Lightning! Watch as we explore lightning, electric charge, and storm safety using the Museum's giant Van de Graaff Generator, invented in Cambridge! April 27 - May 1, 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. Cambridge residents: A limited number of free tickets to the 4:00 performances on April 27 - 30 only are available in the Museum lobby starting at 3:30 p.m. First come, first served; identification required. > Catching the Wind, Engineering is Elementary Design your very own sail and explore the properties of everyday materials that make something just right for catching the wind. April 27, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Free. Classroom A
> Resource Exploration and Field Trip Planning for Teachers Cambridge teachers are invited to meet with Museum teacher educators to learn about the services available. April 27 - May 1, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Free; teachers have free admission to the Museum with identification. Educator Resource Center in the Lyman Library
> Annosphere The annosphere is a mechanical model that demonstrates Earth's daily and seasonal light changes. It shows the time of day and the time of year, modeling sunrise and sunset, for anywhere on Earth. April 28 - May 1, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Planetarium Lobby
> Take a Bite Out of Molecules Through fun, hands-on experiments and activities for the whole family, explore some of the common molecules that are found in everyday foods. April 28 - May 2, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Free, but limited to the first 24 people each day. Suit / Cabot Lab Classroom
> Constructive Destruction: Failure Gone Right! Engage in a tower building (and crushing) activity. Learn and apply concepts that engineers use to analyze structural models to avoid disaster. April 29, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Free. Classroom A
> Radio Lab Listening Party Join Radio Lab's creator and host Jad Abumrad for a live listening party as Jad shares behind-the-scenes stories and excerpts from the program that focuses on stories and ideas about Space. April 29, 7:00 p.m. Tickets: $10, available at store.mos.org. Charles Hayden Planetarium
> Biotech's Best and Brightest Showcase Cambridge's premier companies show off their latest research and products, revealing what makes them world leaders in science. April 30, 12:00 - 5:00 p.m. Blue Wing, Lower Level
> Inspiring Minds: Meet Women in Science Meet dynamic women from across the scientific spectrum and learn why they love their careers. April 30 - May 2, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Blue Wing, Level 1
> Professor Blue New Professor Blue video explains science to kids in an artful and entertaining way. May 2 - 3, 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Shapiro Family Science Live! Stage
> Toxic Traffic: Reducing the Risks Forum Get the facts about the risks of cardiac and respiratory disease from motor vehicle pollution, listen to the perspectives of others, and consider some options that local officials might take to reduce health threats. May 3, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Free. Space is limited; more information and online registration at mos.org/forum. Museum of Science
