WeatherWise Teacher Workshop 2007

For Teachers of Grades 3 - 8

Are you a teacher who teaches weather and needs to know more?

Have you ever tried to understand New England weather?

Do you want to ignite your students' interest in weather?

The Institute will consist of:

A five-day workshop at the Museum of Science where you will learn the basic principles of weather and how to create inquiry activities that will enhance your students' knowledge of weather.

A half-day field trip to Blue Hill Observatory to learn what they do and find out what educational opportunities are available for teachers and students.

A half-day tour of the WBZ-TV studios to see how a weather forecast is created and to watch a live weather broadcast.

As a participant you will:

Receive a $150 stipend for attending the workshop.

Earn PDPs.

Receive materials for the classroom.

Develop ideas and plans to bring back to your school.

The workshops are geared to specific grade levels and focus on the topics taught at that level.

Workshop I: Grades 3 - 5, July 23 - 27

Workshop II: Grades 6 - 8, July 30 - August 3

The maximum number of attendees is 25 for each workshop. They are intended to reach as broad an audience of teachers as possible. Applicants will be chosen to ensure a diversity of schools and districts. The deadline for applications has already passed.
