Bread Club
Select Saturday Mornings, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Biology teachers from the greater Boston area are invited to join Museum educators in a discussion of current trends in biology teaching. Share skills and ideas, and learn something new in gatherings at the Museum and through online networking.
Each morning will begin with a bread experiment followed by a presentation-discussion of the day's featured topic. The second half of the morning will be spent in break-out groups focused around topics such as the claims, evidence, and reasoning framework for scientific argumentation, using literature in biology courses, assessment probes, cognitive research, and biology curricula. Featured topics will include:
> October 1: Making Models to Deepen Understandings in Biology
> November 5: What I Eat (Museum art exhibit)
> December 10: Homeostasis and Mucous
> January 7: The Art of Science Writing and Publishing
> February 4: SimplyScience Whole-Class Competition in Switzerland
> March 3: New Hominin Fossils Challenge Ideas of Early Human Evolution
> May 5: TBA
Whether you can come to some, all, or none of our gatherings, we still welcome you to participate in the virtual side of Bread Club! All currently employed middle and high school biology teachers are invited to register for our TeacherNet site and join the Bread Club group.
