World Wide Views on Global Warming

Take part in two fall forums that invite voices from around the globe to weigh in on our growing environmental challenges.

On September 27, hear from the experts on what environmental policy options will be considered during the 2009 COP15 United Nations Climate Change Conference, and learn what laypeople from around the world think as we present and consider the results of the first-ever global citizen deliberation on climate policy. In addition, you can share your own opinions and recommendations using live text messaging. 2:00 p.m., Cahners Theater (space is limited).

Speakers include: Joan Fitzgerald, director of the Law, Policy and Society Program at Northeastern University; John M. Reilly , associate director for research at MIT's Joint Program on Global Change and senior lecturer and MIT Sloan's School of Management; Ron Sandler, professor of philosophy and senior researcher for nanotechnology and society and environmental Studies, Northeastern University; Noelle Eckley Selin, research scientist at MIT's Center for Global Change Science; and Greg Watson, senior advisor for clean energy technology at the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC) vice president for sustainable development and renewable energy, and director of the MTC's Offshore Wind Collaborative.

On December 5, be on hand as we kick off a scientific conference on global warming, featuring experts from La Cité des Sciences in Paris, the Museum of Science, and the Danish Government in Copenhagen. In addition, climate scientists and policymakers from the European Union and the United States government share their perspectives. 10:00 a.m., Cahners Theater (space is limited).

Speakers include: Bob Corell, vice president of programs, Global Change Office, Heinz Center for Science, Economics, and the Environment; Henry (Jake) Jacoby, co-director of the MIT Joint Program on the Science and Policy of Global Change; Bud Rock, Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC) CEO and former U.S. principal deputy assistant secretary of state for oceans, environment, and science; and Peter Schultz, recently director of the U.S. Global Change Research Program Office and now principal at IFC International on energy and climate change issues.
