Special School Programs

These programs provide a focused experience led by Museum educators. Programs are designed to support the Massachusetts Science and Technology/Engineering Curriculum Framework. Advance reservations and additional fees are required.


Advanced Live Presentations for School Groups (Special School Programs)

A newly dedicated exhibit and presentation area specializing in interpreting the latest issues and discoveries, the Gordon Current Science and Technology Center (CS&T) is a great resource for exploring today's science and technology news. Dinosaur Discoveries (Special School Programs)

Students explore real fossils and models, and walk in the footprints of a dinosaur to discover how animals that lived long ago may have looked and acted. DNA Fingerprinting Lab (Special School Programs)

Lab participants use the tools of geneticists to analyze DNA fragments through gel electrophoresis. We recommend scheduling DNA Fingerprinting first if you are planning to reserve both this and the DNA Transformation lab. This program is funded in part by New England Biolabs, Inc. DNA Transformation Lab (Special School Programs)

Lab participants transform the bacteria E. coli by adding a gene that makes it resistant to an antibiotic. We recommend scheduling DNA Fingerprinting first if you are planning to reserve both this and the DNA Fingerprinting lab. Available: Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m., 12:00 p.m. (details).

Photosynthesis: The Making of a Tree (Special School Programs)

Through a series of hands-on experiments using live plants, students will learn how plants use water and carbon dioxide to produce oxygen and sugar. Available: Tuesdays, February - June, 2007. 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. (details).


Special Scholarship Opportunity: Wired to Win (Special School Programs)

This coming school year (2007 - 2008), Ortho-McNeil Neurologics, Inc. is providing field trip scholarships for 9000 students to visit the Museum and see the award-winning IMAX® film Wired to Win: Surviving the Tour de France.
