Baseball As America

On exhibit June 15 - September 1, 2008

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York presents over 500 artifacts to tell baseball's story, painting a thorough portrait of a game that is intertwined with a nation's history and culture. Visitors can get an up-close view of treasured memorabilia tracing the history of baseball, as well as an interactive experience revealing the science behind the stats.

See actual mementos from legendary feats, including the record-breaking home run bats of Babe Ruth, Roger Maris, and Mark McGwire, Curt Schilling's bloody sock from game two of the 2004 World Series, and the hat worn by Mike Lowell when he was the 2007 World Series MVP (pictured at right). Discover how moments such as these have turned mortal men — and women — into superstars, playing in stadiums that achieved status as near-holy locales.

Learn how teams evolved as enterprises as the league expanded, and see how the aura of baseball also piqued a nation's imagination, propelling the game off the field and into our literature, movie theaters, and beyond. Finally, explore the science behind the game with interactive exhibits that examine everything from the anatomy of a baseball to the various types of soil at Fenway Park.
