School Programs
Weather: Wind, Water & Temperature
Observe how these atmospheric phenomena interact with each other to create weather. Demonstrations model cloud formation, precipitation, and the collision of warm and cold fronts in order to show how slight changes can have dramatic effects. Students watch a hot air balloon lift off inside the school, pressurize a tank to create enough wind to power a cannon, and witness clouds form inside a chamber.
Capacity: 6 classes (150 students) per presentation; 1 to 2 presentations per day.
Schedule: Available during school hours, Monday - Friday.
Space / Special Requirements: Gym / auditorium / cafeteria or other assembly-appropriate space.

- Earth and Space Science > 09 Weather (Grade: 3 – 5)
Differentiate between weather and climate. - Earth and Space Science > 08 Weather (Grade: 3 – 5)
Describe how global patterns such as the jet stream and water currents influence local weather in measurable terms such as temperature, wind direction and speed, and precipitation. - Earth and Space Science > 07 Weather (Grade: 3 – 5)
Distinguish among the various forms of precipitation (rain, snow, sleet, and hail), making connections to the weather in a particular place and time. - Earth and Space Science > 06 Weather (Grade: 3 – 5)
Explain how air temperature, moisture, wind speed and direction, and precipitation make up the weather in a particular place and time.
